Fabric-olics Meandering Book RR

As a member of the Fabric-olics Yahoo Group, I signed up for another Round Robin exchange in 2006. This particular exchange began by creating an 8 page folded meandering book, similar to the one we saw in Cloth, Paper, Scissors. The idea of this RR was that as the book was sent along, participants would decorate a page - front & back with paint, fabric, ribbons, etc. according to the book's theme.  More details on how the exchange was set up, below!

< April 8th, 2007: Lenna's meandering book - home>

My meandering book came home February 20th . . .  right when I started a new job outside of my home and my art! Everything was crazy-busy for me for a while and so I did not make the time to take photos and share the completion of the book with you, until now. I want to thank all of the artists: Geni B., Barbara R., Angela H., Ingrid S-B., and Jo~Ann R. who worked in my meandering book, I so appreciate your wonderful additions to my book! I have really enjoyed looking at your art again as I took photos. If you missed the beginning photos I took of my book before the collaboration, you can hop down to those photos now.

<< my cover, with all the additions! I love all of the bits from everyone else's pages sticking out!! I am so pleased with this collaborative exchange. Good job hosting, Sammy!

< April 8th, 2007: I happily did the last two open pages in Mary Zimany's meandering book at her request (we were in different groups) >

Above (click on the photo for more detail): one of my pages for Mary is on the left side and uses a paper collage sheet image from Lost Art Creations. The red German scrap trim is from ARTChix Studio. Mary's beautiful cover for her meandering book is on the right hand side. When I saw this book on-line I told Mary I would be happy to work in it just so I could see it in person! It IS quite exceptional to view and to hold. Below, you'll see the other side of the book with each page done by a different artist . . .  Mary & I were in different groups for this exchange so I do not know all of the artist's names, forgive me! The other page I did in Mary's book is on the bottom far left, with a close-up, below.

In working on both pages, I wanted Mary's canvas background to show a bit so I did not cover it up all the way.  I left the satin fabric from her back cover showing and I matched the gold mesh she used with a similar but different mesh. Mary's back cover below, my page above with the mesh is on the opposite side.

   Top View!

Thanks so much Mary, that was great fun! You can see more of Mary Zimany's wonderful artwork HERE on her PictureTrail.

< Geni Braman's 'Flamingos' Meandering Book >

Very sadly, Geni Braman passed away unexpectedly during this exchange. I would have sent Geni's book home to her, but instead I will be sending  it to her dear friend Chris. She will give it to Geni's family when she thinks this is appropriate  - lenna 02/28/07

< Jo-Ann Reichert's 'Goddess' Meandering Book>

I recently finished working in Jo-Ann's Reichert's book (one page, front & back) and will share her book with you below. Jo-Ann's book has the theme of GODDESS; wonderful! I will be mailing this off to Geni promptly so Jo-Ann's meandering book can continue it's journey!

< Lenna's 'changing leaves' Meandering Book >

My theme is ... changing leaves ... so I used Lumiere paint, rubber stamping, nature printing, fabric and sequins! The cover:

This exchange ran through February, 2007.

More details: Fabric-olics group owner Sammy Stafney sent out a call for the RR by writing to the group, "The 'meandering book' was designed by  Susie LaFond and published in the Winter 2005 issue of the magazine  Cloth, Paper, Scissors on page 22...  I contacted Susie to get her okay on using her meandering book design for our own RR... and she said that it was fine with her, but we probably should NOT put her pattern on the web... as you can find it published in Cloth, Paper, Scissors in the Winter 2005 issue. For this RR choose to have your pages 4" to 6" square... please no smaller or larger... The base of your fabric book should be something sturdy... like Timtex, Pentex, Canvas paper, Aida cloth etc. If you are in doubt, post to the group and I am sure someone will help you decide... Cut eight squares of your size.. mine will be 6"... but yours can be down to 4" if you want... You can paint your pages, but you may limit or leave the pages plain and let your mailing group play! You are to decorate your front cover and one page with your theme.. Place your book in a large baggie with your name, email, mailing address and mailing address in the mailing order of your group.. Also on the back cover, place your personal info on there ... Sign up at the database on the group by August. 20th and have it ready to mail out before Sept 18th!"
