Expand your fun with ATCs (artist trading cards) by using fabric! In this class you'll learn how to create fabric ATCs with no stitching at all (we'll use glue instead), by hand-sewing, and I'll also bring my sewing machine so you can machine sew a few ATCs! We can try some already made fabric transfers as the base for our ATCs. I'll give you some history and information on artist trading cards, and we'll use ARTchix fabric collage images fabric words in our work. At the end of class there will be the opportunity to swap some of the ATCs we've made . . . . that is, if you can give them up!

The No-Sew Fabric Book . . . as featured in Expression Magazine - September/October 2004
This is a class based on an
accordion-style Fabric book I created and had featured in Expression Magazine,
the
September/October 2004 issue, pages 68-71. You are welcome to bring your own
fabric, or use mine. We will add lace, trim, and charms. We'll hand sew, fuse
and mostly glue to put it together. You'll be able to create a fabric book with
little or no sewing! For all levels of fabric collage experience. If you took
the Image transfer class or have transfers of your own that you've made, you can
bring them along to add to your book.

The Piano Hinge Book . . . as featured in ARTitude Zine - Summer 2002
Using bamboo skewers to create the spine, we will make an unusual journal. First we’ll make the cover, decorating the front with an image if you wish. Bring your favorite, or use one I provide from ARTchix Studio. We’ll cut all the pages, insert the skewers and weave them together at the top and the bottom with fibers. We’ll also add beads. I will supply some, but please bring your favorite beads that you'd like to add. See the sample book photos for ideas on what you could bring. This is a CoOL journal; perfect for displaying photos, or your favorite quotes and images.
(2 hour class - $30.00 per student) ~ Back to the TOP!
This class will give you lots of ideas on how to start a collage and then finish it, based on various background techniques credited to Claudine Hellmuth. We will combine acrylic paints with a variety of household products to create wonderful backgrounds on canvas. We will use masking tape, tissue paper rubbing alcohol, baking soda and plastic wrap! Then we will create a collage or two using one or more of your canvas backgrounds incorporating collage materials. Please bring to class: your stamping kit, 2 – 3 canvas boards of any size from 3”x 5” up to 8” x 10”, assorted collage material you’d like to include (optional), and matte or gel medium. More photos from one of my canvas collage classes are here.

The Star Book . . . as featured in Expression Magazine - March/April 2002
This is an ALL day class (10-4pm or 11-5pm). Class will include a break for lunch and shopping if it's held in a store OR looking at all the various art and class samples if it's at Lenna's! You'll learn how to make a star book (which has a sewn binding), and have time to stamp and decorate the entire book according to your theme and colors. What a wonderful gift this would make for someone special! You'll leave the class with a completely finished star book! My friend Chris Peden, whose article and Star book were published on the front Cover of Expression Magazine (March/April 2002) taught me how to create a Star Book. The star book on the cover of that issue is the star book that Chris Peden made for me! Now you can create a Star Book too. More star book photos to inspire you are located here.
This class will be held from 10:30am-4:00pm with 1/2 break for lunch.

We'll do some easy sewing on the cover with embroidery ribbon and a bit of fabric stamping too. Learn many different quick backgrounds for beautiful Artist Trading cards and make a very unique little book filled with vintage ARTchix Studio images, as published on the Cover of the May/June 2005 issue of Expression Magazine!

packing tape transfers,
inkjet printed paper transfers and printed transparencies that we will transfer onto paper with gel medium.

understanding of what works for you and what kinds of transfers you like.
(3 hour class - $35.00 per student)
Altered Books ~Beyond the Basics
Join me for a 3 hour workshop on Altered Books where we will play with eyelets, vellum and transparencies, watercolor crayons & chalk inks, fabric, fringe & beads, and learn how to make windows and doors in our books; including spider web windows. (3 hour class - $35.00 per student)
The Origami Tag Book . . . as featured in ARTitude Zine - Autumn 2004
This is a fantastic “book” with pages based on an ancient origami fold. The covers open up to show off a tea house top, and inside are many stamped and decorated tags that you can pull down to reveal what they say. It’s based on an old fortune telling ornamental book. Stop in and see the sample! It’s amazing, but not hard to do in class with Lenna. Published in the Autumn 2004 issue of ARTitude Zine.
(3 hour class $35.00 per student)
The Changeable Accordion Book . . . as featured in Expression Magazine - January/February 2005
As published in Expression Magazine, January/February 2005 issue, on pgs.60-63, it's the Amazing Changeable Accordion Book! This is a quick-change artist type of book. It can open like a traditional book, an accordion book, or you can make the spine flip in 2 different directions, and then change it back!
(2 hour class - $30.00 per student) ~ Back to the TOP!
I love this book. This is a wonderful project from Making Books and Journals. Using a hexagon pattern, pages are cut out of watercolor paper and the covers from mat board. We will stamp with permanent ink and use watercolor crayons and twinkling H2Os to decorate our pages. The sample book has a “honey bee” theme that you can follow if you wish; if not, bring a few stamps of your own on another theme. This little 3” x 3” book is surprising, as it opens up from one hexagon to seven, revealing a story as it opens. FUN!
(2 hour class - $30.00 per student)
Wow! Learn how to stamp fabric with real leaves and flowers for a beautiful, natural look. We'll use fabric paints and nature items you've collected (or use some of mine). Please bring 3 or 4 pieces of cloth or clothing items to class. Cloth must be pre-washed with no fabric softener added for best results. Lighter colored fabrics are easiest to print, but certain paints can print on top of darker colored fabrics too. Natural fibers work best. I will go over heat setting instructions in detail so your fabric stamping will last!
(3 hour class - $35.00 per student)
This cute little book is created from cardstock for the cover, and mini coffee filters for the pages and sewn together with a modified pamphlet stitch. We will enclose favorite quotes (or little notes) and give the book color by stamping and stippling with Adirondack ink pads. This mini book is finished with a sparkle by using Twinkling H2Os and a 24 K gold Krylon Marker. Fun!
(2 hour class - $30.00 per student) ~ Back to the TOP!
Above and below are some samples of what you might do in this workshop -depending on what you bring to class! This is a great introduction to fabric stamping with lots of hands-on help available . . . OR, if you've had some experience it could be the scheduled time you need to work on those handmade Holiday gifts with lots of stamps & supplies available! Try both fabric paints and fabric inks and discover which stamps work best with which medium. Please BRING TO CLASS a number of items: 4 to 6 pre-washed pieces of fabric or clothing with NO fabric softener used, and remember that 100% cotton or silk will work better than a fabric blend. Suggestions: bring a couple of T-shirts, a cotton or silk blouse, an apron, cloth napkins, a canvas tote bag, fabric for a project you'll complete later, plain pillowcases, or other clothing items including sweatshirts or jean jackets! This workshop is geared for both beginners and for those of you who have done some fabric stamping on your own, but need to schedule time to fabric stamp and be able to use the instructor's large collection of art rubber stamps! Receive help and inspiration from a widely published fabric stamp artist, and try a large variety of fabric paints and ink!
(3 hour class - $35.00 per student)
Fabric Pendants or Ornaments . . . as featured in RubberStampMadness Magazine, January 2002
In this class you will create a soft cloth pendant (or ornament) out of muslin that we will paint and stamp first! Special fabric glue is used to put this project together easily. We'll stuff the ornament with fiberfill, embellish the front of it with a sheer stamped ribbon, accent with a 14K Gold marker, and then sew on seed beads to finish it. You may bring your favorite beads, but beads will also be provided for the project. We'll finish this off by adding a cord for a pendant, or a loop for an ornament. You will make at least one of these, and begin a few more! An elegant and eye-catching gift for yourself or someone special . . . . .
(2 hour class - $30.00 per student) ~ Back to the TOP!
The ART Pillow . . . as featured in Expression Magazine - January/February 2002
This is a great project /gift – and perfect for those who have been hesitant to try fabric stamping. I will go over how to use fabric inks and fabric paints and teach you a cool transfer embossing technique!
