*Online Classes and Workshops*

I have taught a number of on-line classes and workshops  for groups of students through www.joggles.com and through yahoo groups. With on-line classes with a forum, students can share their artwork with each other and also ask questions or make comments . On-line classes are available privately from me via email instruction when I am not offering the same classes through joggles.com.

My on-line/email offerings at this time are as follows:

Mini Art Quilt Fabric Book Class Outline

Learn how to make mini art quilts and create a fabric book with published multi-media instructor, Lenna Andrews! You’ll often hear these fabric pieces referred to as quilties, quilt-lets, fabric collages, or fabric pages. STUDENT COMMENTS

(from the joggles class forum)

10/29/07 - Lenna, I want to thank you for the clear, concise lessons . . .and inspiration that you have provided. I taught for 25 years and I know how difficult it is to explain and teach techniques, everyone learns so differently. I can't imagine teaching online.
Your ability to be there to inspire and explain is extraordinary. I feel like you opened a door within me that has given me the freedom to play and explore and what fun I am having. The class was wonderful and all of you that joined me in this class are amazing! Thank you!!!
I understand that more classes are on the way, I am looking forward to any class you are teaching.
>>Thanks, Vickie

10/27/07 - Re: Welcome to Lesson 5!
I think Sarah has put very eloquently into words what I wanted to say about the class. I have taken several classes here at Joggles and many more elsewhere. THIS IS THE BEST CLASS I HAVE EVER TAKEN. Beautifully presented and illustrated class notes - logical progression - great new techniques - excellent encouragement and problem solving in the forum - great classmates. Thank you Lenna.

So, also a BIG THANK YOU to everyone who has contributed to the forum with messages and pictures. It has really made it feel like a 'live' class where we are all sharing and learning from each other to. I feel privileged to have been a part of this
.Thanks to each and every one of you
 >>Cheers for now, Helen   http://quiltsatcs.blogspot.com/

Lenna - I love the idea of the wrap covers! I have been trying to figure out how to make a cover for some denim pages for a wild west fabric book. The wrap cover seems like the perfect solution. I need to make one more page for my Egyptian book and make the cover for it. Thanks so much for very well written lessons with great detail and photos. I hope you offer many more classes in the future. Very well done!!
  >>Cathy in Texas

My first page is done and the process was fantastic. I'm not usually so spontaneous. I made 7 x 7 pages and the theme started out to be Sisters, but I've decided to add my mom. I feel like a kid coloring out of the lines for the first time! Very freeing. Traditional quilting is much more structured and this is a blast! I will send a picture soon. I love all the ones I've viewed so far, great inspiration.

Greetings Everyone,
My name's Rhea and I live in a small town in Alaska on the Kenai Peninsula. There is SO much going on in the art world, and so little of it touches us here! I'm very thankful for teachers who do online classes. I've not made a page yet, but I've picked my themes - My children, batik fabrics for the backgrounds, and a particular poem - all things I love. I've collected some batiks together, gathered up images of my children, and doubled checked the poem so I don't misquote it. Now to make a page! Lenna, thank you for teaching this class, and for your inspiring pages.

Hi Lenna --  I have to say you are the best online teacher there ever could be -  Seriously, your instructions are so clear and easy to follow. >>Carol Murphy in California

Hi Lenna ,  I have really enjoyed this class. . . . .  Thank you for your comprehensive notes. They are so easy to read and all the photos are inspirational. I also had no idea how you put the quilts all together so I also loved the last lesson. Also thank you to everyone who posted photos of their work, I've enjoyed looking at all of them. A big thank you!!!!!!

Thank you! My summer 2006 Mini Art Quilt class had 83 students join me through joggles.com for my first online session of this course - wow! In January 2007, I had 17 'Dyehard' yahoo group enthusiasts take this course with me privately. In March, 2007 the on-line session through joggles had an additional 34 students. The fall of 2007 I worked with 38 students through joggles.com -- Thank you all!
Happy fabric and mixed media creating!

Open the Door

a fun mixed media photo art journal

Do you have a lot of photos hanging around that you haven't done anything with yet and would love to incorporate into some kind of cool art journal? What if you could learn a few Altered Book techniques too? Are you looking for an artistic way to share your photos and tell a story at the same time? Then, this class is for you!

We'll start with a blank 7-Gypsies Mini Maison house-shaped journal (5.5" x 7.5") or another journal of your choice. We'll add paint, paper, photos, fabric, images, ribbons, charms, transparencies, tissue paper and more to create a very special one-of-a kind photo art journal. This class will go over various altered book techniques showing you how to cover blank pages, make doors & windows for your favorite photos, add text, cut pages, and make things sparkle with Twinkling H2Os!

There are 4 lessons for the Open the Door photo art journal class. Each lesson is approximately 30 pages long, including text and photos to illustrate the instructions. By following my instructions you can create a unique photo art journal while learning many different techniques that can be applied  to other projects. When I am teaching this class privately via email I can send you the lessons once a week (as a PDF file) or you can receive all the lessons at once - your choice. I am available via email for questions while you are receiving the lessons and will send you a supply list and options for finding the book.

'Open The Door' STUDENT COMMENTS

From Anne St. Louis in Canada, who took this class privately via email, during  August 2007:

“I must say this was an excellent class. The lessons were incredibly prepared, well written and extremely helpful photos. I don't think I'll ever journal the same way, ever again. I might have to sign up for the mini quilt book on Joggles.”  Anne (who also signed up for the mini quilt book class) See some of her great work from this class below the comments . . .

From the joggles classes Forum, Fall 2006:

Hi Lenna,
I have had a great time working on my little book. I had never used the Twinkling H2Os before, as several others have written before me, and I, too, found them to be great fun. I am making a little book for my sister for Christmas. A beach theme. I haven't cut doors in the cover, either, as I may go in a different direction there and cover the painted end boards with beach glass I have been collecting. Not sure, yet. Anyway, I love the project and enjoyed Lesson One very much. Thanks for all the great ideas. All the best, Michele, Pacific Northwest

Lenna,
I'm so excited! The wonderful samples of your transparencies inspired me to try the glue method, and it worked! I tried the Xyron adhesive but there was a streak in the middle of my text. Thanks again for sharing your ATCs. I just finished Lesson 1 and am tired in a good way. It's been a very productive day. Talk to you later. Cheers. Maggie Muller, Pittsburgh, PA

Thanks for the replies about the curling pages. Now I am not so worried. I thought I might be doing something wrong, but guess not. Yeah, I kind of like the curling pages also to a point, but a couple of my pages were REALLY curling. I did lay something heavy on them and it helped a lot, but the suggestion to use water on the other side of the page is one I will definitely try. I appreciate the help. I had a really fun time doing the covers and I have to say, I LOVE the Lumin-something paints. They are great colors and their coverage is wonderful. A lot different than working with acrylics although I really like these too. And making the doors was great fun. Deb Zimmerman, Upstate NY
