"Ride the energy of your own unique spirit."

The Original Documented Life Project (DLP) -Week 13

The March Theme is: Making Your Mark (Doodles & Mark Making)
The March 28th Art Challenge is: Make a Custom Element

Journal Prompt: "Ride the energy of your own unique spirit." ~ Gabrielle Roth

At first the challenge to make a custom element stumped me and I procrastinated a bit. Sound familiar? Time got the better of me and the creative part of my brain kicked in! While working on the Sketchbook Project recently, I rummaged through my leftover collage & art materials and came across an image transfer I did of the beautiful bougainvilleas in our front yard. I left the image out because I liked it, but it did not get used in my Sketchbook Project. Later, it caught my attention -something to use as a "custom element" and the rest as they say, is history!

To start, I went to my storage area and found scraps of fabric to use with the image transfer. I also employed my favorite watercolor crayons to prepare the page.

Fabric strips on both sides -like a frame, with watercolor crayons in the middle and the crayons also doodled on top of the fabric strips.

I like the crayon doodles on the fabric

I layered the image transfer which was done on muslin, onto 2 other pieces of fabric and used my sewing machine to sew them all together. When the watercolor crayons on the page were dry, I used Tacky Glue to fix my custom element to the page.

I also added rubber stamping - the leaves and the saying.

The horizontal strip was cut away from my sketchbook and found a new home here.

My custom element - I'm riding the energy of my own unique spirit!

I really enjoyed doing this page after all. It has been a while since I've done much with fabric and I found it really fun to work with. Perhaps I'll do some more! Reminds me I need to upload more of my fabric art to this website : ) Thanks for visiting. There is an email newsletter/blog post Sign-up right here (it's free!) if you don't want to miss a post : o )  More to come!  ❤
