Fabric & Stitching: weeks 18 & 19 Documented Life

The Documented Life Project, Weeks 18 & 19 - This time I combined two weeks into one page because . . . it just happened that way!

The Theme for May is: Touchy Feely (Texture) * The May 2nd Art Challenge is Fabric, with a Journal Prompt: The Fabric of Your Life and the May 9th Art Challenge is Stitching, with a Journal Prompt: "All that I'm after is life full of laughter."

First, I created this fabric collage sized to fit my journal -about 9" x 11". I've also been participating in The 100 Day Project where you chose something you feel you must do and you commit to doing it every day for 100 days! I chose working with fabric. I have been wanting to work with fabric again but had not been following through, until I committed to the 100 Day Project. Here is what I have done in 30 days.

While I was working with my fabric that has been stashed in tubs and boxes for years, I came across little bits of history, definitely the fabric of my life. Fabric from baby rompers I made for my sons who are now 30 and 33 years old . . . can you imagine I even still have this fabric? Parts of my husband's old worn out jeans, my Nonie's soft green linen cocktail napkin, fabric from lots of little quilties I've made in the past, fabric I painted and stamped for class samples . . . so many things.

One day I pieced my fabric collage together, cutting and snipping until it fit together well and looked good. I was planning on doing this for week 18 in my journal with a theme of Fabric. Then, week 19 for the Documented Life Challenge was announced and the theme was 'Stitch'. It just made so much sense to me. I decided right then to use decorative machine stitches to attach all my fabric to another plain piece of fabric . . . .

Then, I glued the fabric collage into my journal with tacky Glue. I really like it and I enjoyed the process of making it as well!! I have really gotten to know my sewing machine again too!

Thanks for stopping by, I'd love to hear what you think!
