Textured paper: Week 22/DLP

I'm following prompts from The Documented Life Project: The May Theme is Touchy Feely (Texture) - May 30th Art Challenge is Textured Paper - The Journal Prompt: I'm So Not Feeling It! I started with a piece of cardstock I had previously gelli printed with a stencil and gel medium, of all things! When it dries, it is slightly raised and full of texture.

From that start, I layered papers I had already gathered. I used textured & dyed, handmade mulberry, a piece of clear shiny transparency and a half a doily from our anniversary breakfast in Boca Grande, Gasparilla Island, FL. I painted it with purple Lumiere paint, crumbled it up & added a segment of paper towel with pink watercolor paint on it that I had saved for some reason…

You can see the cheesecloth from the previous week's theme is sneaking over and adding texture to this side of the page. And I also painted this side of the spread orange & yellow before adding any of my textured paper.

I used gel medium to adhere the saved paper towel . . . and after I added it my brain ticked off -- SAND! I could add sand for more texture! I have a bag saved for such occasions, and added sparingly it stuck to the wet gel medium. I like it. We had just returned from Boca Grande on Gasparilla Island, FL, where the beaches are gorgeous, I am sure that was an influence in my decision.

I love the way the edges stick out of my journal!!

I’m hoping you are taking a few minutes to squeeze something creative into your day. This can be so helpful to calm your mind and ignite your spirit! I’ve got more to share and will return soon . . . There are only only so many hours in the day!
