The Documented Life Project™ -- The June Theme is Travel Journaling
June 6 Art Challenge: Illustrative Art Journaling -- Journal Prompt: Take Me Away
Here is the spread I came up with for the June 6th Challenge of 'Illustrative Art Journaling' with the prompt of "Take me away" and the overall theme of Travel Journaling. I illustrated the challenge mostly with paper & photos, collage style, but I did do a bit of doodling and mark making too.
Most every summer my husband and I travel to Wolfe Island, Ontario where Steve spent summers growing up. His grandmother was born on the island and the house she lived in is still part of the family property. Other cottages were built over the years. During the summer, family members (we counted 140 of us a few years ago!) come to Wolfe Island and stay for a week or two or three! We usually spent 2 weeks there. It's a 3 day drive for us now that we have moved to FL, but so worth it . . . for the Wolfe Island sunsets and the Red River bread, of course among other things!
For my journal spread I glued blue and gold mulberry paper down across 2 pages after I had picked out maps I had saved, bakery bread labels (our favorite Red River) and photos previously printed out for a book project a few years ago. It is amazing what I can find when I look in my paper stashes!
I used watercolor crayons around the edges of the pages that did not get covered with the mulberry paper. That is an actual map of Wolfe Island. It's the largest of the Thousand Islands, about 20 miles long if I remember correctly, near the mouth of Lake Ontario. Our family cottage is on the banks of the St. Lawrence River, beautiful. I have a few more photos here that will share what the island is like.
When I finished gluing all my papers and photos down, I did some doodling with a black Sharpie marker, rubber stamped black swirls and used a gold metallic marker for squiggles and splatters as well as a glittery blue DecoFabric marker. Then I felt it was complete. TAKE ME AWAY to Wolfe Island, I say! Why yes, what about sometime next month?? Can't wait!
Thanks as always for visiting!
