Fabric Elements Creative Challenge

Fabric Elements Creative Challenge

Fabric Elements is a line of pre-cut fabrics and coordinating elements designed by Rebekah Meier for Mixed Media Collage. I was excited to learn I could find these products locally, at JoAnn's Fabrics and Crafts. Wow, a whole line of products, including fabric, designed specifically for mixed media collage? I'm in . . .

Heart and Soul art journaling

Heart and Soul art journaling

I'm happy to say that I continued to be "called" to work/play in my art journal. At the moment, not having a prompt is not inhibiting me. More often than not, every few days I have this feeling that I want to do something creative and so I make myself go start something in my art journal . . .

Lots of Layers

Lots of Layers

I thought about doing a quick fabric project for my 100 project but soon noticed that working/playing in my art journal was calling to me more. I knew I was not done with trying out my new stencils by Terri Stegmiller! I concentrated on the design I had not played with yet and ended up using it repeatedly, in layers . . . .

Yesterday, I gave myself permission to play with some new stencils and use the results in my art journal. I started out by testing on plain paper.  I grabbed a leftover scrap piece of paper that had spray inks over a stencil. On top of this, I added acrylic paint with a sponge over the new August 'Stencil Club stencils' from StencilGirl designed by Terri Stegmiller. . . . .

ICAD #37: step-by-step

ICAD #37: step-by-step

I took a few photos while making my ICAD (Index card a day) tonight and thought I would share them. The theme this week from daisy yellow was to use a different color palette every day. Well, I took that theme and used it to inspire me to use lots of different colors via my tin of hard pastels. I started off by making a mark with ALL of the colors, one by one . . . .

Gelli Plate Play - week 16 of The Documented Life Project

Gelli Plate Play - week 16 of The Documented Life Project

I started with a little Gelli Plate play. I really like using the Gelli Plate, but I have not worked with it enough to feel really comfortable with it yet. So I just set out to play, a trick that works well for me. I used a small 3" x 5" Gelli plate and a lovely circle one . . .

Walking in fields, walking by Art

Walking in fields, walking by Art

I am returning to my visit with Frieda in Scotland last month. I've added more to my art journal about that glorious week! On the left, Frieda & I were walking in the fields near her house with her dogs. When I showed this page to Steven, he remarked how fitting it was that I chose to add hand drawn stitches around the photo of Frieda. She is very well known as an award winning Art Quilter and stitching is how she often speaks : )

I did not even consciously think about what I was doing, it just came to me as I was journaling...

Peebles, in the Scottish Borders

Peebles, in the Scottish Borders

I really had fun creating this spread. It is about the town of Peebles in the Scottish Borders where Frieda had her exhibit of Journal Quilts. We went there together on the 20th of September for her Galley Talk at the Tweeddale Museum, home to her 52 Journals exhibit . . .
