making things . . .

Over the past week or so I have spent a lot of time out in my studio making things! I just have not posted about this until now. I've been working on canvas boards and stretched canvas, using paint, paper and creating small collages. I think I will see if I can sell some of these finished pieces either locally in one of the shops, or maybe even online. Some of these canvas collages were made specifically so I could photograph my process, step-by-step, for a new online class I am writing. I've had a few requests for my 'Collage Techniques' class that I teach in person to be made available as online lessons. I am very happy to say that project is well underway and I hope it will be finished soon. You can find all of my on-line workshop offerings on my teaching website: A Little Creative Space.

I had bought a number of very small stretched canvas that I prepared (before the holidays) by painting with either white or black gesso. I thought they might make nice valentine gifts! With that thinking in mind, I painted small hearts in a variety of sizes using Lumiere paints. I also cut out some paper hearts. This was a fun project! After painting, I thought my little canvases needed a bit more oomph, so I found some words from a discarded magnet set and added those with goop glue. You can see the finished pieces below.

The larger canvases (ATC size - 2.5" x 3.5") have a little stand or a hanger, and the smaller ones (1.5" x 1.5" ?) I turned into magnets - what fun!

The other larger canvases I did for my online class are full of my collage techniques - see them below . . . you can click on ANY photo for more detail.

I will write more on these later!

From plain notebooks to art-ful delights!

Here are some plain notebooks that I painted and then collaged with various papers and photos on the front & back covers. They are 5" x 7" in size with lined paper inside. I covered the inside covers with various papers, then wrapped them in clear cellophane and brought them to Tapestry Rose, a wonderful gift shop in Rocky Hill, CT! You will find these collaged notebooks and many other wonderful handmade gifts there. Perfect for the upcoming Holidays!

The Bleu Willow

My friend Carol Van Gerve told me about this unique gift store that recently opened in Simsbury, CT (May of 2008). The owner, Laura Smigel, had purchased some of Carol's gorgeous greeting cards to sell at her store (scroll down after you follow the link, to see carol's cards). Carol encouraged me to visit the Bleu Willow myself, and I did a few weeks ago. I brought in some of my artwork: a few pieces of jewelry and fabric items, to see if the Laura might be interested. She was, and even better news for me: Three of my reversible wire-wrapped frame necklaces (below) sold right away!

These necklaces feature ARTchix Studio images, frames & charms, and you can click on any photo for more detail.

Today I went to the Bleu Willow again, armed with more jewelry since it was so popular. I also brought in a colorful dyed and stamped denim jacket I have been working on in my spare time : ^ ) Some of the pieces, below:

The Jacket I mentioned is shown to your left. There will be more about how I created it in another post, but here you can see it hanging inside the Bleu Willow. I dyed and stamped a plain white denim jacket and used fabric images printed with a special ink that can stand a gentle washing, from Alpha Stamps.

>> To the right, on the table, is the fabric fairytale book I created with yummy images from Alpha Stamps!

And here is a photo of Laura, the owner of The Bleu Willow in front of her shop! Come visit Wednesday - Friday 11am - 5pm, Saturday 10am - 5pm and Sunday 12 noon -5pm. It is located at 552 Hopmeadow Street in Simsbury CT, near Simsmore Square and Brookside Bagels!!
