our favorite holiday

more than christmas, birthdays, new years or even election day, Steven and I love valentine's day.

I stitched on a canvas leftover from a class
then collaged with various papers
and added eco hearts from ARTchix Studio.

the finished piece - the words are from an ARTchix Studio sheet: perfect!

I added mail art even though this collage was hand delivered!
I used an envelope I received in the Vintage Note Card Swap from
Lynda Roddy Ozzauto to hold the collage, but added rubber stamps to personalize it.

Steven was very excited to give me his gift - he etched these wine
glasses secretly with moons & stars ;  ) amazing!
He had made 2 for us a few years ago and alas, they had both broken.

Steven made the card too . . . and then added his logo (and a price-ha!)

loving wishes to you & yours -

valentine book!

Well, I did it! I made a small valentine book for Steven, that is : ^ )
I was scrambling to find the time to make this and I finished at the last minute, just in the nick of time . . .  but I am so glad I did. Steven loved the little book! Tim's video was all I needed to figure it out, see my previous post.

This is the first time I ever made this book -a mini one he calls it the "W" book. So, being my first time it is not that polished and the back cover should have been folded in the other direction. If I had paid more attention the whole book would show the red side of the paper (the back cover only shows the tan side). But, oh well! Steven did not seem to mind : ) This little book is 3" x 3" and made from one single piece of 12" x 12" paper. Here are a bunch of photos for you!

I made an "envelope" out of pretty paper that was
gifted to me : )

found text -an idea from my Altered book lessons I'll soon be teaching!!

3 of the pages are pockets!

This is a printed business card by MOO printing
you can see the back of it below left - address etc is below that

Tissue tape from Tim Holtz

Love Potion #9?

made with love :  )
I really enjoyed making this and will make another one sometime! Did anyone else watch the video and make a mini book? I'd love to hear about it and/or see a link to your book - please leave a comment!

Steven and I went out for a lovely dinner after visiting the ArtCenter Manatee and I wrote more about it on my daily photo journal. I found out have published 58 entries in a row, with my last gap being the 18th of December 2010, and 66 entries total since December 4th, 2010. The likelihood of me publishing an image tomorrow is 90.2% - and . . . I mention 'love' 232% more than the average Blipfoto journal. : )))  "all you need is love . . . (everybody)  all you need is love . . . all you need is lo-ove, all you really need is love!"

tim holtz - valentine mini book

I subscribe to Tim Holtz's YouTube videos and found this one in my inbox this morning. Steven loves little books and Tim's book looks like a great variation on a small book I made Steven a few years ago:

2005? That is unbelievably, 6 years ago!

This little book above that I made for Steven is made from just a single sheet of 8 1/2 x 11" paper, where as the book Tim Holtz shows us in his video is made from a 12" x 12" sheet. You can also use Tim's Tissue Tape for the project, which is great fun for me since I only just discovered it at Collage Stuff. Until recently I have not done a lot of shopping because of packing, moving 1500 miles,  packing, moving . .. but I think now I can definitely say I am addicted to Lisa Busch's shop, Collage Stuff... it was my friend Frieda Oxenham who brought it to my attention. I don't know if I should thank her or . . . not??!! ; ^ ) Lisa has great products and wonderful service - I am saying this of my own accord!

I am going to try to make one of Tim Holtz's mini valentine books for Steven. We have a 'date' on Monday, valentines day, and I think this little book would be a perfect addition. We're going to the ArtCenter Manatee to see a watercolor show of the National Watercolor Society and then out to dinner, whoo whoo! If I make the book I'll share the book here if I can, and if you make one - post it on your blog and let me know! You could leave a comment here and give us the link.

have a fun happy valentines day!

ValentineHouseCard (back)

I love the back of this card, so I decided to show it first! This scan shows off the other side of the 2-sided scrapbook paper I've been using very nicely. This is the same paer I used for Valentine 01 in the post below (the other side) - it's from the "Be Good" Double-sided scrapbook paper set found here at Alpha Stamps: http://www.alphastamps.com/collageitemspaper.html

Yum! Here is the front of the card, below. It's slightly risque . . . so if you are easily offended, don't look!

I have also created more Valentine Ornaments for the swap I am hosting due February 2nd, 2008. If you would like to see them and many more inspiring art pieces, please visit the creative swaps blog!

The rubber stamps are mostly from Alpha Stamps - all the hearts/cherub.

The image is another Tallulah's from Alpha Stamps off the Modern Romance sheet - mmmmmm!

A valentine I made as a sample for Leslie at Alpha Stamps . . . but because she only needed a high-res photo, I get to keep it -- heh heh . . . and since steven LOVED it when he saw it, i warned him he could be seeing it again : ^ )

The image is served up on the card plain and natural as it is; I added nothing to it except a tiny bit of gold metalic marker around the edge of the heart and copying the swirl - click on the card for a closer look and use the "all sizes" button once you get there. This image comes from the Tallulah's Modern Romance cardstock collage sheet that you can find here at Alpha Stamps.

The paper itself with the background swirl is from a large piece of scrapbook paper I found on the Alpha Stamps site. Most of this large sheet of paper is a dark red print, but on one or two of the edges, it has this gorgeous artistic swirl . . . which I loved and luckily I could lead it right down into the heart image that I choose from the Modern Romance sheet. I just layered the red paper on a tall card. It was really so easy! I always like to share my design work with my husband Steven, and when he saw this he just loved it. He'll be seeing this again! xo
-I also used Alpha Stamps valentine images to create some fabric ornaments that I will use for an upcoming swap I am hosting. Please hop over to my creative swaps blog to see them!! Lenna 01-04-07
