Meet Lenna Young Andrews —

a mixed media artist working with paper, paint, ink, fabric, rubber stamps, photos and more. Advocate of any type of creative activity, for health, well-being and fun!

It is clear that creativity can be both born and made. While some people may have a natural ability or inclination towards creative thinking, others may need to develop their skills over time with practice and dedication. Ultimately, creativity is a skill that can be learned and honed regardless of age or background.
— Tina Seelig, "inGenius: A Crash Course on Creativity."

About Lenna

I’ve been keen on creating since I was a child. My family always supported me drawing, painting, sewing, beading, writing poetry and taking modern dance classes. My dad was especially supportive. He loved making things and had exceptional woodworking skills. Dad shared his knowledge with my husband Steve when we moved to Florida. They set up a workshop together and refinished dad’s handmade boats. They created two bookshelves together and dad showed Steve how to make wooden spoons.

Creativity runs in my family! The American Impressionist and Realist, William Glackens (1870-1938) is my Great Uncle. A curated page about him that shares his art is here on this site. He has often been referred to as the “American Renoir”.

Expressing myself, especially through art, is how I navigate. I’ve taught many mixed media classes, hosted Art Swaps, participated in collaborations with other artists and I love to challenge myself with daily/weekly projects. I enjoy taking workshops with other artists; learning new things and getting inspired. I love sharing my own art & helping others to explore their own creativity. It is there within you, even if you don't think it is! Early in my mixed media art career, I was published in a number of books and magazines —learn more here.

Lenna lives on the SW coast of Florida with her husband Steven Deming, who also is an artist. His cartoons are funny, charming and he has a real talent for drawing. They were both born & raised in Connecticut where they met in 1972 as teenagers. When a mutual friend reconnected them in 2004, one fateful phone call rekindled their friendship and a whirlwind courtship ensued! This was followed 8 months later by their wedding in 2005… Click on the photo below to read more of their story.

We adopted Daisy August 29, 2021. She was 5 years old & rescued from a puppy mill in Alabama. Sadly, she passed on April 19, 2024. Daisy lived a happy life with us with lots of dog walks, playtime and snuggling. We are so glad she found her way into our hearts and filled our lives with joy. We miss our sweet girl and cherish the time we spent with her. She will always be with us in spirit. xo
