52 weeks of creativity in 2020

As 2019 turns into 2020, I found myself thinking about how to keep the creative ideas simmering and me continuing to make things. For 2 years now I’ve done a 365 project, finishing with 365 ‘something creative’ by the end of the year. It’s been so great to do this, amazing really. But, I wanted something a little looser, a little simpler going forward. Instead of counting and cataloging 365 pieces of art, I’m going to try 52 weeks of creativity! You are most welcome to join me.

I’ve set some guidelines for myself

  • I intend to draw something every week

  • I intend to take photographs every week

  • I intend to sew something every week. Any/Or All: finish Dallas’ quilt, continue ‘Stitch meditations’, and last but not least - create/sew an article of clothing from a pattern!

  • I intend to do at least one of the following mixed media art things every week: collage, work in altered books, do art journaling, play with paint, paper, printing and stamping.

I will do a round-up/review once a week on Wednesdays via a blog post here. I don’t think I’ll show everything I made, I’ll see how it goes. I intend to talk about my process, share what gave me the most joy, notice what I need to work on, and anything else that comes up, like how it’s working! This plan alleviates me from scurrying around and numbering/cataloging 365 things I made. It allows me to have some loose goals of what I want to achieve weekly in 2020. Plus I can report & share once a week so my cataloging will be more organized. This idea also helps to lead me back to posting on my blog more often. I see now that I only posted 12 times in 2019! Compare that to 2010, when I posted 255 times -yikes!! I do miss it. Somewhere in-between like 50 posts or so would be lovely. What do you think? I would love to hear from you! I’ll post a note on Instagram when the weekly blog post here is sent out and I will tag it #52in2020 - you are welcome to do the same if this idea appeals!

Steve & I wish you a warm, creative and happy new year!

Art provides an opportunity for kaleidoscopic thinking. Each time we shift the lens of our perceptions, we gain new perspectives — and new opportunities for innovation.
