Scrap Journals
Scrap or Junk journals are handmade journals created with leftover scrap papers. The pages are folded in half & bound together with a simple pamphlet stitch. Click for printable PDF file, or search for “pamphlet stitch” how-to videos on YouTube. Papers for scrap journals can be discarded book pages, leftover gel prints, handmade paper, scrapbook paper, magazine pages or any other kind of paper! Using different sized paper gives your scrap journal a more eclectic look and allows some pages to peek out behind others.
Fold your papers in half and nest them together, rearranging the order of pages until you are pleased, then sew them together with a pamphlet stitch. The nested set of pages is called a “signature” and the amount of pages and signatures you have will determine the size of your book. Scrap journals can be small or large, the journals shared here measure from 3x4 inches up to 9x6 inches. Examples of signatures and the pamphlet stitch are shown directly below with links to specific scrap journals underneath the examples. I hope you are inspired to make one!
