Quilting is wonderful way to weave creativity into your life. A lap quilt, a large quilt for a bed or small fabric pages can be worked on daily or weekly.
The first quilt I made was my son’s idea. Dallas showed me a pile of his old button down shirts and asked, “Could you recycle these into a quilt for me?” (View the process below in the gallery). I’d never made a quilt before but said yes!
I worked on developing confidence by watching videos and reading up on quilting techniques. This is a great way for anyone to learn about cutting squares precisely and sewing them together. Traditional quilting is mathematical. There are so many different ways to quilt the fabric and finished the edges. Researching is essential if you are new to the process. Explore a few different ideas and then start! A little bit of sewing on a consistent basis can definitely reinforce a creative habit.
Links to some of the quilts I’ve made are below. The process photos for my first quilt are below the links.
My 2nd quilt, made for the 100 day project in 2020. Organized and designed by talented quilter & artist, Frieda Oxenham.
